Today’s installment of A Purgatory of Misery is a brief outline of the history of Ireland’s relationship with it’s neighbour. From the Norman occupation in the twelfth century, the Bruce invasion of the fourteenth, Tudor plantations in the sixteenth and Cromwell’s brutal suppression of Catholicism in the seventeenth. The seeds of hatred are all too evident.
