I’m grateful to Christopher Graham for sharing this article on The Story Reading Ape, to Andrew Noakes for writing it and to Jane Friedman for hosting. I’m not sure my historical fiction has always followed all of these principles but they certainly seem sound and I will do my best to follow them in future.

Thanks for sharing this, Frank. Useful reminders.

There are some real gems in this article that go beyond historical fiction. Thanks, Frank!

A few years ago, I participated in a great workshop on writing historical fiction taught by David Morell (creator of Rambo). As soon as I get done with my WIP (a contemporary work of urban horror), I can’t wait to get started on a piece of historical fiction I outlined years ago and have been waiting patiently to realize as a draft!

I am not a big fan of secondary sources in this American era of conspiracy theories and fake news.
